Pulse Oximeters

A pulse oximeter is a portable medical health monitoring device that non-invasively measures arterial blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate using optical sensing technology. It operates on the principle of photoplethysmography (PPG): built-in photoelectric sensors emit specific wavelengths of red and infrared light through peripheral tissue; by detecting differences in light absorption by hemoglobin, the device calculates the percentage concentration of oxygenated hemoglobin in the blood. These devices are primarily categorized into two forms: fingertip clip-style for quick spot checks and wearable designs (wristband or ring-style) for continuous monitoring. Key user groups include individuals with chronic respiratory conditions (e.g., COPD), cardiovascular patients, post-operative recovery patients, mountain climbers, and high-altitude workers. They are also widely used in general household health management for scenarios such as sleep apnea screening and monitoring physical status during exercise. In clinical settings, they commonly serve as auxiliary tools for respiratory function assessment but are typically not used as standalone diagnostic instruments.
